Meditation
I have learned the most effective way of understanding and interpreting the messages and feelings received during learning and practicing Reiki are with a quiet mind. I used to be a very chaotic person and as such led a very chaotic life and I never quite knew what was waiting for me around the corner. Through meditation I basically forced myself to stop and consider my actions and as such took control of my life.
You cannot just do a course in Reiki and that is it. It's not like reading a book and taking an exam. The ability to "tap in" to the Universal Energy and feel the different vibrations these courses have to offer are, I believe, a complete holistic life choice.
When the mind is stilled it is more open to the subtle energies and can "hear" the messages we are sent. Whenever I try and force an experience it never works but if I relax and let it flow I find the most amazing things happen.
Try and take time out every day to meditate for at least 10 minutes to start with, building to 20 minutes after about 3 weeks.
Keep a Journal
I recommend you keep a journal of your experiences when you have attunements. Everyone feels and senses the experience differently. Some people feel heat, others see colours. Some people feel completely relaxed and want to fall asleep.
After attunements you may feel emotional or remember incidents in your past that you thought you had forgotten. Keep all your feelings, emotions and observations in your journal to help you understand your students' experiences.
